Accounting Specialist
About Us:
The Sacramento History Alliance (SHA) is the nonprofit 501(c)(3) partner with the City of Sacramento to manage the Sacramento History Museum and Old Sacramento Visitors Center. SHA manages several educational programs including the Old Sacramento Underground Tours, Paranormal Investigations, and Sacramento Living History.
Overview of the Position:
Reporting to the Executive Director/CEO, the SHA Accounting Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounts payable and receivable, and managing bank deposits. Additionally, they also work closely with the Director and other team members to ensure a seamless and efficient workflow. The ideal candidate will deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external clients while maintaining high accuracy, timeliness, and compliance standards. The reporting location is the Sacramento History Museum at 101 I Street in Old Sacramento. Complimentary daily parking is available directly behind the California State Railroad Museum.
Qualifications:
- Have 2+ years of accounting/finance experience preferably in a non-profit organization
- Proven accounting experience, preferably in Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable
- Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures
- Competency with computers and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Advanced knowledge of accounting software; experience with Quickbooks is preferred;
- Experience in payroll processing
- Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial reports
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills and aptitude for numbers
- Ability to perform filing and record-keeping tasks
- Proficient in data entry and word processing
Examples of Essential Duties:
- Audit incoming invoices and payment requests for appropriate coding and authorizations
- Process vendor payments weekly, ensuring timely and accurate payment of invoices
- Handle vendor communications and resolve any billing disputes
- Code credit card expenses and upload credit card charges to Quickbooks
- Upload payroll transactions from Paychex
- Reconcile weekly reports from our POS and Ticketing Software (TAM)
- Process cash, check and credit card transactions and prepare bank deposits
- Assist in resolving discrepancies and irregularities in financial records
- Maintain digital and physical files for easy access
- Assist as needed in processing bi-weekly payroll using Paychex ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Assist as needed in benefits administration, including processing new hires, terminations, and employee changes
- Provide exemplary customer service to internal and external clients
- Attend Staff meetings
- Complete work in a timely and professional manner
- Attend and, if necessary, assist with Museum functions. This may require work on an occasional evening or weekend
- Additional tasks and projects as assigned

Compensation:
This hourly part-time benefited position is budgeted at $25/hr.
